More and more atas

The crowd I mix with is like getting more and more atas (referring to people of certain status - ambassadors, socialites etc) Eh hem.....:p The latest atas person I am putting into my friend list is a photographer with Malaysia Tatler (oh gosh....I can hear my sister shrieking all the way in Zurich already)

My new friend I met through another friend and we met for the first time last night over dinner. He is currently on an assignment to stop at several countries all over the world - actually one country in each continent - for 40 days. He's made Africa his personal trip (after shooting London Fashion Week and Jimmy Choo) and I have helped him arranged his 5 days trip in 2 days! So any how, he arrived yesterday and we met up for dinner. He's since left for the safari and will only see him again on 2nd March, the day he flies back to London for Las Vegas. I can't remember what he'll be in Vegas for but before London, he was in Singapore shooting Miss Singapore Wedding. Then to Chile - that is his own assignment and then finally to New Zealand where he's shooting for Anthony Robbins (WHOA!!!).

OK let me put it this way - he's not Tatler's in-house photographer but Tatler hires his services from time to time.

So anyway, if you're interested in his work, check out www.thephotoz.com - he has more overseas jobs than local jobs :s So no matter who and where you are, if you need a different, experienced and bloody damn good photographer, he's the one to look for. Make sure you ask for the Director coz he has 11 other junior/senior photographers. Of course, he owns the company. With 10 years of experience, I will definitely have my own company. Why work for anyone else right?

I will post some pictures from our dinner last night then you can judge for yourself. But be patient - the photos are with him.....duh!

First Ang Pow!

My 2nd Chinese New Year as a married woman and I have finally given out my first ang pow! :p (Bank transfer ang pows not included)

The lucky person? It went to a hubby's customer's 3 month old baby boy. Ain't he just so lucky??? I didn't realise until hubby told her (baby's mom and hubby's client) that this is the first ang pow that we're giving out since getting married. Hmm....it didn't feel like anything. Why??? Should be a glorious moment! Maybe because it involves giving out money :p

I KNEW IT!

See I mentioned in my previous post that I'm not good at the sudden niceness of my hubby right? I knew I shouldn't just TRUST him completely. He told me today that we might not go to Mombasa anymore, after all! See see? I know my hubby too well!

Let's see - this trip I'm gonna make it happen like it or not. Maybe not next week but I'm gonna make it happen before I leave, by hook or by crook even if it means going with someone else.

Me not good at sudden niceness....

Hubby asked me, out of the blue, if I wanna go to Mombasa. Mombasa is a coastal city in Kenya - it's the 2nd largest/main city in Kenya after its capital, Nairobi. It's a 7-8 hour drive from Nairobi. This happened last night when we were out for dinner. Yup, out for dinner on a Tuesday. Things are soo weird right?

He said we can go either this weekend or the next and he'll take a day of on either Friday or Monday. I'm sorry if I appear paranoid to you but I AM!! I am not used to this sudden act of ......I don't even have a word for it. Kindness? No. Affect? Maybe. Whatever! He caused my brain to go into an overdrive last night just because of this "innocent" question. Why is he suddenly so nice to me? Why did he suddenly suggest we take a trip to Mombasa? Don't get me wrong - my hubby isn't abusing me and he's nice to me. He loves me. But a trip right now when we're up to our neck in debts? Hmmm.....Possible reasons started swarming me last night when I thought about why why why.....yeah so I'm paranoid - sue me.

Easiest way out of my "misery"? Ask him which I did. He said "Well, we've never been before and we're leaving so just go lor...." Logical to a normal person but not to me. Yup I'm paranoid - sue me sue me. :p

I just got off the phone with a potential dealer, this time for Tanzania. Judging from what I hear, she's doing pretty well. She's got established business and owns a boutique in Tanzania selling leather bags and shoes. Wow right? She's trying to expand her business to include clothings now. So I'm planning to make a trip to Tanzania in the next couple of weeks just to see if there's a business there. I also want to see her shop.

We Are The World - after 25 years.....

After 25 years, this song was remade for Haiti.

I remember posting the original video a couple of posts before and now I'm posting this newly released video of the song.

Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios) "We Are The World 25 For Haiti", in which Jones and Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici.

The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.

“We Are the World” is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and co-produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. Honored numerous times — including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People’s Choice Award — the song was promoted with a critically received music video, a home video, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and several books, posters and shirts. The promotion and merchandise aided the success of “We Are the World”, which was eventually named the biggest-selling single of all time.
In the years that have followed, USA for Africa has raised and distributed more than $63 million in revenue from the sales of more than 7 million units of the album, single and cassettes, plus nearly 2 million digital sales and related merchandise. Just over half the total was spent on emergency relief (food, medicine, and refugee services) and the balance was used to support more than 500 different relief, rehabilitation and development projects in 18 different countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

This version of the song features voice of Michael Jackson and parts of him from the original video - I found it very touching, not sure why.

CNY and V-Day recap

So how was your Chinese New Year and/or Valentine's Day this year? Except for the Chinese New Year open house which we attended, nothing from my side. Boring huh? No gifts and no flowers from hubby either. Yup, that's married for you. You can totally forget about getting sweet cards or chocolates whatsoever. Maybe it's just my hubby but I think most are the same. First year, yes you can still expect something.

I remember speaking to my aunt on Chinese New Year when I called home. She was at grandma's. She was telling me the same thing that her husband (my uncle) told her that if you're in love, everyday's Valentine's, which I cannot agree more BUT us girls just want to have that one special day to celebrate love and to get gifts and be spoilt. I asked my aunt what her response was - she told uncle, "wow you must have saved a lot of money all these years then!" I have to tell my hubby the same thing too - I gave him a card OK?! And all he could say when he the card was "alamak, I didn't get you any card leh. How lah?" And walked away....-_-"

Otherwise, the luncheon was really good! Had all the delicacies which you can usually find during Chinese New Year like Loh Hon Chai, kuih kapit (love letters), roast pork, etc etc YUM

Gong Xi Valentines People!

Dong dong dong qiang, dong dong dong qiang, dong dong dong qiang dong qiang dong dong qiang. LMAO

I bet you're wonder what the subject of this post means and what the hell does that sentence up there means. Don't get too confused. I'm not out of my mine yet.

The title of this blog is wishing everybody a Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Valentine's Day in 1 sentence. Gong Xi Fa Cai is how the Chinese wish each other during Chinese New Year. And that dong dong dong thingy, is just the lyrics (I think - is is the sound made by the instruments or do they actually sing it out loud?) to a very very popular Chinese New Year song. You hear it EVERYWHERE during Chinese New Year.

So, before I go out for my Chinese New Year lunch, wishing everyone an extremely Prosperous and Happy Tiger New Year!!

It's 3am and I have been trying to sleep since 12.30am. I'm extremely
tired and am exhausted due to lack of proper rest/sleep for past week.
My insomnia is getting out of hand and there's nothing I can do about
it. It is torturous to be exhausted yet your mind and body just
wouldn't let you rest.

In fact my eyes were glued shut, so tired I just couldn't open them
but my brain just refused to let me fall asleep !!!!!!

RIP A.McQueen

I'm not a fan of Alexander McQueen's but I do admire his work and talent. Fashion world lost him today to depression and grief. He was found dead in his London luxury apartment yesterday morning. He is only 40 years old! He hanged himself apparently.

R.I.P Lee Alexander McQueen. The world of fashion will miss you deeply for the colors, difference and fun that you bring to the otherwise mundane world.
