RIP A.McQueen

I'm not a fan of Alexander McQueen's but I do admire his work and talent. Fashion world lost him today to depression and grief. He was found dead in his London luxury apartment yesterday morning. He is only 40 years old! He hanged himself apparently.

R.I.P Lee Alexander McQueen. The world of fashion will miss you deeply for the colors, difference and fun that you bring to the otherwise mundane world.

Chinese New Year is just around the corner - what have you done? Are you still cleaning your closet and getting rid of those unwanted stuff? Thank goodness I don't have any of those to do! My house is kept sparkling clean all year long. That's the good thing about having a maid right? And not having anybody care if it's ready for Chinese New Year or not.

Only have an open house to attend on Sunday. Nothing else is on. I've been busy baking pineapple tarts - the first batch has disappeared mysteriously (in my stomach).......and have a carrot cake to bake for the open house on Sunday. Busy busy busy. Also have to embark on my weight loss program - have put on way TOO MUCH weight! Damn! Why? Eating too much that's why. I know it but I can't seem to be able to cut it down. Dang!

Anyway, apart from it being Chinese New Year, it's also Valentine's Day. I wonder what hubby will do this year. I bet it's nothing.......so anyway, Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Valentine's Day y'all

Ouch!

My MBP fell from 1 feet high!!! I left it at the foot of the couch last night while watching TV. It's at the foot but not the edge. Then hubby needed me to help him with something on his laptop so I stretched over to him and when I turned back to my own sit, there was a loud THUMP! My laptop, which was resting on top of a thick hardcover book has gone down with the book and mouse and everything else!!! *shriek*

I looked down - it was sitting right on top of the book. I wonder how it fell but whatever it is, my MBP has suffered a bad concussion for sure. I hope she will survive. *sob sob*

Pineapple Tarts - success!

What is Chinese New Year without pineapple tarts? It's not the tart you know - it's actually pineapple jam (homemade) wrapped in pastry.

For as long as I can remember, there will definitely be at least 2 containers of pineapple tarts from my aunt. She makes cookies for sale during Chinese New Year and we'll always get a couple of them - there will definitely be pineapple tarts and my favourite, makmur cookies. Come to think of it, I honestly think makmur isn't the real name of the cookie. Aunt just made it up or if it is, her version of makmur has been modified. But whatever it is, it's still my favourite. NOBODY touches my makmur! Hehehehe....

This will be my 4th Chinese New Year I'm away from home, spent in a country where the Chinese population is really pathetic (previous countries include Italy and Russia) so I don't miss Chinese New Year at all. Unless it's on a weekend, otherwise I'll be working anyway. But because of my little luncheon party in 2 days (!!!), I've decided to try baking these little darlings.

Well, I think I'm naturally gifted baker :p but I honestly think pastry making runs in the family. I'm not such a good cook (even hubby said so - he told his friends when it comes to pastries, he has no doubt it will turn out good) but I usually succeed on my first attempt at any pastry. Just like this one. OK aesthetically, I'm really quite a shame of it but it taste good man. And and and I made the blardy pineapple jam MYSELF! What say you huh??

But honestly, I think it runs in the family, both paternal and maternal side of the family. My aunt (paternal side) makes cookies for sale during Chinese New Year. My cousin (maternal side) is a pastry chef - authentic pastry chef. My two sisters - none knows how to cook (I honestly doubt they can even fry an egg!) but both bakes very well (I have not tried but that is what I heard) And I have aunts and cousins (maternal side) who bakes so well! One of them even makes mooncakes! Wow!

I'm not going to post any pictures up now. I'll post them as part of my Sunday luncheon success story :p

Till then - wish me luck!

Hmmm - what is the subject of this entry??

Demotivated, mood-less, not very happy, not chirpy for sure, one of the low points of life bla bla bla - that's how I feel right now about me! Today is ME day! I'm talking about me me me me and more me!

I have to change the bed covers, I have laundry to do, I have dishes to do and I have to study - exam's 3 weeks away and I'm not on schedule. But I have no mood, energy or drive to do any of those. All I wanna do is laze around in front of my laptop doing nothing. Even then, I have no idea what to do! I'm even tired of FarmVille already! This is definitely a low point in my life - maybe moment. I don't know if I have felt like this before but I'm sure I have only I don't remember. I rarely remembers bad times. I don't remember all the bad things that has ever happened to me or anybody. I don't remember the evil things people do or say to me. If I remember something bad about you, then it must have been really bad. Why remember the bad in life when life isn't perfect already? Why make it worse? Life's way too short for all those crap man.

Man....I'm so contradicting huh? Maybe it's the time of the month? Maybe not - I don't know....URGH! Better sit up and gambate! I'll have my family and friends with me again very soon!

Pre CNY dinner party

Yup, we have been invited to a CNY open house so YAY! :)

BUT I'm holding one pre-CNY dinner party myself this Sunday. It's a small one and it really isn't because of CNY but rather for a friend whom I might not see again for a long time. He's leaving for Jakarta for a meeting a couple of days after CNY (he's with the Indonesian embassy) for 3 weeks and he's thinking of extending his stay back home. I, on the other hand, still have no idea when exactly I'm leaving Kenya so there's a chance that I might leave before he's back in Kenya.

At the moment we have 6 persons, including myself. I'm having problems coming up with the menu. Hubby said 1 dish for each person which means yours truly will have to whip up 6 different dishes!!! And that does not include dessert ok. Ok here it is, my preliminary menu for Sunday night:

Main
1) Rendang chicken
2) Dry curry fish fillet
3) Sweet and sour pork
4) French beans with ikan bilis (anchovies)
5) Stir-fry cauliflower and broccoli
6) ABC Soup

Dessert
1) Blueberry muffin
2) Double choc fudge muffin
3) Pineapple tarts
4) Walnut biscuits
5) Kuih kodok/ Goreng Pisang
6) Char siew pau

The list is not a OR list. I will be making ALL of these items listed myself. No help, nothing. Just moi. The main dishes are easy....the dessert will take up more time and I will have to start on Saturday or even Friday. Muffins are very very easy to do and fast. Pineapple tarts will take up a lot of time and will have to start on Friday. Goreng pisang and walnut biscuits can be done on Saturday coz they are very very fast as well. And char siew pau can only be done on Saturday since I have to ensure the freshness and also most likely it's supper during mahjong on Saturday night.

I'll try to remember to take pictures of the end result and publish them after Sunday :)

Wow - a new month in a new year. Time really flies, we're already in February. Can't believe how January just managed to pass me by just like that. Looking back I don't even know what I've been doing for the whole of January - playing FB games I guess. I need to buck up on my studies....I MUST complete by end of February!!! But I'm soo lazy and so tired all the time. Everytime I pick up my text, I'll start to doze off. Sigh...life.....
